Crowns
A tooth that incurs severe trauma or develops extensive decay may need more than a regular filling. In these cases, Dr. Gonzalez often recommends a crown. Also called caps, crowns fit securely over a compromised tooth to restore stability and function, as well as appearance. Depending on the location of the tooth, Dr. Gonzalez will select an all-ceramic, porcelain-fused-to-metal (PFM), or gold crown. For front teeth that show when you smile, Dr. Gonzales prefers to place white crowns. Back teeth, however, must endure significant pressure, so a metal restoration may be the best option.
Plan on two appointments to receive your custom crown. At your first visit, Dr. Gonzalez will prepare your tooth, take an impression, and fit you with a temporary. Once we receive your permanent crown from the quality dental lab, you will make a return trip to our office so that Dr. Gonzalez can complete minor adjustments, if necessary, and cement the crown in place.
