Sedation Dentistry
Dr. Gonzales uses a gentle injection technique for local anesthesia, and many of our patients say that they don't feel a thing. If more anesthesia is required, you may request nitrous oxide, commonly called laughing gas. In some cases, an oral sedative can be the best option.
For nervous, anxious, or fearful dental patients, Dr. Gonzales may recommend sedation dentistry. Oral sedation combines nitrous oxide gas with an anti-anxiety medication, which you will take about an hour before your appointment. During your procedure, we will monitor your vital signs, and you retain the ability to respond to verbal stimulus. However, the following day you may have little or no memory of your time in the dental chair.
Because the effects of an oral sedative can linger for several hours, a friend or relative must drive you to and from our office. Anyone who dislikes dental treatment, who has a strong gag reflex, or who needs hours of treatment performed in one visit should consider sedation dentistry.
